South Asian Musical Instruments Exhibit: November 9, 2012 – November 16, 2012

The ICAA received funds from Citizenship Immigration Canada (CIC) to execute the South Asian Musical Instruments Exhibit in partnership with the Malhar Group from November 9th, 2012 to November 16th, 2013. A total of 42 volunteers put forth efforts to organize this wonderful display of multiculturalism which highlighted the rich traditions and histories of 25 South Asian musical instruments.

The exhibit included a large Commencement Recital on November 9th, 2012 which brought together 40 guests and a Closing Recital on November 16th, 2012 which brought together 52 guests. A total of 13 performers discussed the history behind the instruments and played selected pieces on the Tabla, the Sitar, the Oud, the Rubab and others. More than 500 Hamiltonians viewed the exhibit over the nine day period.
