ICAA Art Exhibitions (2004-2006)

Immigrant Culture and Art Association (ICAA) has organized number artistic and cultural events in the community and with the help of dedicated immigrant artists and cultural professionals as well as with the cooperation of low income and underrepresented artists in the community.

ICAA ART Exhibitions

1. Art Exhibition of Guennadi kalinline Yar Taraky, Knair rashid and Lydia Van Pelt at the Carnegie Galley - Dundas Ontario August 2006.

2. Art Exhibition of ICAA students at the Art of August Exhibition at the Hamilton Central Library August 2006.

3 Art Exhibition of Danuta Niton, Gerardo Mansang, and Andrew Ostapenko at teh ICAA Community gallery - November 2006.

4. Art Exhibition of Yar Taraky and Nazia Zeb dedicated to the Women’s and Children’s Health Unrest and Disaster – Facing Impossible Odds during the 7th Annual International Women and Children’s Health Symposium September 24, 2005, DeGroote Medical Learning Centre– McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario.

5. ICAA Artists (Cano) Qing Guo, Hoojung Jones, Nazia Zeb, and Chiu Cheung Chung (LRPS) paintings and photographs exhibition in the Hamilton City Hall. September 29, 2005 to October 28, 2005.  More than 100 members, volunteers, staff and ICAA board, students, parents, artists, and community leaders who participated on the ICAA Open House/AGM and celebrations at City Hall – Gracious Council Main Chamber. The following dignitaries attended the event:  Honorable Mayor Lary Diiani, Bushra Junaid of Ontario Arts Council,. Evelyn Myrie Social Worker and Columnist at the Hamilton Spectator, Winsten Tinglin Board Member Ontario Trillium Foundation, Representative of David Christopherson MP – Hamilton Centre, Andrea Howarth MPP Hamilton, Dhaliwal of the Sik Community, Mirza of Muslim Association, Azzem Alezerg of Sudanese Community Association, Jessey Key – Social Worker, Bilal – Turkish Community Centre, Marney – CEO Today’s Family, Erin and Kerin of the Living Rock Ministries, Sardar Khan social worker and leader of the Pakistani Community, Shelley Portous – OPIRG McMaster University, Heather – Workers Art Heritage Centre, Marufa Shinwari – Afghan Canadian Women Society – SISO, Bashir Khan and Shabir Khan social Workers, Representative of Arts Hamilton and many more.

6. ICAA participated in the SISO – SWISH Program with ICAA Youth Design Group art exhibition - June 30, 2005 - Hamilton Public Library.

7.Art Exhibit – dedicated to the Multicultural Canada Day organized by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), ICAA and Afghan Canadian Women Society - June 27, 2005 CRA Hall – Hamilton. The exhibit was dedicated to the Canada Day celebration. ICAA introduced the artwork of two new artists Gerardo Mansang - Colombian, and Chiu C. Chung, LRPS - Chinese along with Nazia, Yar, and Gunnadi’s work and 12 young artist. Artwork of our 12 young artists attracted the attention of art lovers.

8. ICAA Visual Art SPRING Exhibitions 2005 - Immigrant Artists. The exhibition was dedicated to the South Asian Heritage May 19-June 30, 2005 at City Hall- Hamilton.  Latest paintings, pottery and sculpture of the following renowned artists was showcased: Yar Taraky, Lydia V. Pelt, Guennadi Kalinine, Aziz Al Hassaini, Danuta Niton, Ali Mohammad and Knair Rashid.  ICAA staff, ICAA school children, board members, volunteers, art lovers, city officials, diverse community representatives from Middle East, Eastern Europe, Russia, Central and south Asia attended the reception.

9. Visual Art Exhibition Spring Semester 2005 dedicated to more than 100 talented immigrants children and youth of the ICAA Art School at Community Gallery - ICAA Art School @ 51 Stuart Street - 11 June, 2005. The event was attended by ICAA staff, Board Members,  ICAA School Students, Teachers, Artists, Parents, Families and Friends of the Students, community Leaders from Iraq, Russia, Poland, Pakistan, Afghanistan and many other countries.

10. Art Exhibit, Silent Art Auction, and Musical Concert Organized by ICAA and Gray Santucci Musical Group  at Royal Botanical Garden - dedicated to the Mediterranean Food & Wine Festival, More than 1,000 people attended the event, Hamilton - 25 - 27 February 2005. More than 1500 people attended this festival.

11.  Art Exhibit, Silent Art Auction, and Musical Concert and Pasta Supper Organized by ICAA and SISO at Cathedral High School - dedicated to the Tsunami Relief. More than 1000 people attended the event, Hamilton 18 February 2005.

12. Art Exhibit at the International Women’s Day Committee - March 8, 2005. ICAA women artists Nazia Zeb, Danuta Niton, Knair Rashid  and Baseera Khan artwork and photography were presented.  Over 500 women from a broad range of communities celebrated International Women’s Day, commemorating women’s continued struggle for equality worldwide and apprciaited the artwork.

13. Art Exhibit and Silent Art Auction at Soupfest Organized by Living Rock Ministries and ICAA Hamilton 5 January 2005 dedicated to youth and children. More than 2000 people attended the event. ICAA got sponsorship certificate as well.

2004

  1. ICAA Art School Student art exhibition at the Community Gallery 51 Stuart Street Hamilton. December 13, 04 – January 18, 2005.
  2. Community Art Exhibition dedicated at the Open House of Strengthening Hamilton Community Initiative, City Hall Hamilton 24 November 2004. Hamilton Mayor Hon. Lary DiIanni, City councillors and Community leaders from all over Hamilton and area attended the exhibit.
  3. ICAA Art Exhibit and Silent Art Auction dedicated to an Unforgettable Evening with Yvonne and Winston Tinglin, LINA station, Hamilton, October 29, 2004.  About 600 Dignitaries and Community leaders from all over Hamilton including Hon. Lincoln Alexander attended the event.
  4. 19th International Exhibition 2004 dedicated to the Hamilton Folks Arts Heritage Council, Central Library, Hamilton, November 11-13, 2004. A large number of artists and community leaders attended the event.
  5. ICAA artists Gennadi Kalinine, Kareem Aneed, Yar Taraky, Djura Lubarda and Nazia Zeb paintings exhibition in the Hamilton City Hall. September 30, 2004 to December 30, 2004. Over 60 paintings and multimedia art works were displayed during this period.
  6. “Get to work” and expression of immigrant professionals sculpture exhibition. Hamilton City Hall Main Lobby.  September 30, 2004 to November 30, 2004
  7. ICAA Youth Artists Exhibit at ‘COMMUNITY Connection for Youth” Geraldo at LaSalle Park Burlington partnered with the Living Rock Ministries Hamilton, 22 September 2004. About 200 community leaders and art lovers attended the exhibit.   
  8. Community Art Exhibition at the Strengthening Hamilton Community Initiative, Hamilton 18 March 2004.The exhibition aimed at to introduce diverse cultures and art through paintings and other artwork and to convey a message of hope, peace and harmony among diverse communities living in Hamilton. All the participants including Mayor of Hamilton appreciated the artwork and paid tribute to the artists Yar and Nazia work.
  9. ICAA members - Yar Taraky and Nazia Zeb Art Exhibition Re: Reflections on Women & Peace building in Afghanistan at McMaster University 12 March 04. The exhibition was part of lecture “The Reflections on Women and Peace building in Afghanistan” by Cheshmak F. Sims, Lecturer for Interdisciplinary Studies McMaster University. Paintings about Afghan national dance, women, and children were the focus of the people.

2003

  1. Third Semester ICAA Students Art exhibition at ICAA Art School, December 20, 2003.
  2. ICAA Art Exhibition at the Roof Top Festival October 2003 dedicated to the World Cycling Championship (October 9-12, 2003). More than 40 paintings of Alex Kamukuny, Nazia Zeb, Salma A. Jaan, and Yar M. Taraky were displayed. The ICAA educational and artists’ mentorship programs were introduced to the visitors. Local and foreign art lovers took interest in ICAA stall and recorded their appreciations for the artists. ICAA management and artists have talked to more than 250 people and recruited 24 artists and musicians to ICAA at the Roof Top Festival.
  3. ICAA Art school show and fundraising event at the Settlement and Integration Services Organization (SISO), 16 August 2003 at Gage Park.  A large number of communities visited our stall. ICAA artists Yar Taraky and Alex draw live portrait of visitors.  Parents and community leaders took keen interest in the students art work.

  5. Nazia Zeb Painting Exhibit- Absolutely Fabulous Women in Art & Song - Worker Art & Heritage Center Canada (March 2003)
  6. ICAA Art Exhibition at the Ontario Legal Aid and Law Convention in the Convention center – 24 June 2003.
  7. ICAA student art exhibition at the Children Aid Society fundraising celebration at the LIUNA Station with an art exhibition of their assignments. They sang songs, poems and O’ Canada. The performance produced a big resonance. Honourable Sheila Copps Minister of Heritage appreciated the work of ICAA students and talked to them (20 June 2003).
  8. First Semester ICAA Art School Students Art exhibition at the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, March 14 2003.
  9. ICAA collaborated in the “Refugee Women” Exhibition held (June 14 - July 14 2003) with the Workers Art and Heritage Centre, SISO and McMaster University. The exhibition produced a positive effect and was the through outcome of the “Saying I” Refugee Women Project. A large number of community members and refugee women – authors of the art piece and stories gathered at the event. Nazia was the lead artist while Yar was mentor of the artists.
  10. The ICAA first Art Exhibition was held in the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts (HCA). This exhibition was a combination of visual arts and music. Concert of the Gryphon Trio was preformed in the same day. Four ICAA members’ artists Ann Romeguiere, Yar M. Taraky, Abdelhamid Mosbah and Steven Thai participated in the exhibition. A postcard was published by the HCA to appreciate ICAA Members Artists. The exhibition produced positive expression for ICAA and thus ICAA started its journey into the Hamilton artistic environment.
  11. ICAA participated in the Multicultural Festival held on August 16, 2003 at the Gage Park. The students’ works including drawings, paintings, pottery and crafts were displayed along with their photographs. Yar and one of ICAA students - Alex made live portraits of some visitors. The SISO staff and its Director, McMaster University Professors, WAHC Board Members, MPP David Christopherson and many community leaders visited ICAA stall and talked with our students. CHTV crew visited our stall and talked to our students, artists, volunteers, and staff.
  12. ICAA participated in the «First Canadian Afghan Art and Culture Exhibition » Organized by the Afghan Post Publications. The exhibit was featuring visual art, crafts, embroidery, and national dress presentation on the eve of 84th Independence Day of Afghanistan (August 27-30 2003 at City Hall Toronto). ICAA developed contacts with renowned Afghan Artists which have been devastated by the 25-years continued war in their country. The Toronto City Mayor candidate Barbara Hall, MPs, MPPs, and a large number of art lovers were amazed by art work of the ICAA. ICAA staff and volunteers introduced ICAA programs to the artists outside Hamilton and invited them to visit us for available opportunities of exhibitions and artists mentoring program. Yar M. Taraky talked to the audience on behalf of the Afghan Artists community and the ICAA. ICAA received coverage in the radio and TV.
